Greetings, ARTS Lovers!
Big changes are afoot, and CHANGE IS GOOD!
Tonight (Thursday, August 8) is the Auburn Art Walk, from 6-9pm. The ARTS Building is currently closed for major renovations, but over 30 other venues will be available for your perusal, each featuring one or more of our stellar regional artists. I haven't seen the map yet, so I can't give you many details, I only know that I (Brian Fries) am exhibiting a selection of my ceramic works in the Simply Striking clothing shop, just down and across Lincoln Way from ARTS. Drop in and say hi!
The changes currently underway in the ARTS Building will add new creative spaces and improve the look and function of the ARTS Building. In the six years since we first opened the ARTS Building, the local art scene has matured rapidly. We are rebuilding with a strong intent to provide an invigorating venue for the creation, display, performance and promotion of the Arts.
In September, we will be hosting the State of the ARTS 2002 exhibition. We have had many excellent entries, and are very excited about the show. The artist's reception will be held on Friday, September 20, from 6-9pm. Mark your calendars - this will be fun! (If your calendar was already marked for September 6, please change that - we've moved the date back 2 weeks to appease the construction gods).
Following the State of the ARTS 2002 show, October will feature paintings by Ruth Chase and a Grand Re-Opening Celebration of the new-improved ARTS Building during the October 10 Art Walk.
ARTS Calendar:
* August 8, 6-9pm - Auburn Art Walk throughout Historic Auburn
* September 20, 6-9pm - State of the ARTS 2002 Artists' Reception
* October 10, 6-9pm - Auburn Art Walk / ARTS Building Grand Re-Opening
* November 9-10 - Autumn Artist Studio Tour, throughout the Placer County foothills
Finally, I am looking to expand the scope of this newsletter, as well as the Arts of Auburn web site (http://www.artsofauburn.com) to cover the whole of Auburn and surrounding communities. If you have any Arts events coming up - exhibitions, performances, receptions, workshops, appearances - drop me a note and I'll try to include it in the next newsletter and on the web site.
Take care!
Brian Fries
