On November 23, 2002, thousands of people around the world will gather in small towns and big cities to enjoy an evening of storytelling. The annual event is known as Tellabration! and since its beginning in 1988, has grown into one of the most impressive collective events in the history of the modern storytelling revival.
This year Auburn will join in the global Tellabration! the Arts Council of Placer County and the Sacramento Storytellers Guild are joining forces to produce a free local Tellabration! on Saturday, November 23, at 7pm at The Arts Building, 808 Lincoln Way, in Auburn.
"At the same time we're sharing stories here in Auburn, people all over the globe will be telling and listening to their own tales," says Joan Stockbridge, a spokesperson for the event. "It's exhilarating to know that we'll be a part of a worldwide event right here in our community. For adults and older children who have never experienced a storytelling performance, this will be a great opportunity."
"We have a terrific lineup of professional storytellers from Sacramento, Nevada City, and Colfax who are donating their outstanding talents in support of this event," Joan Stockbridge says. "And we have an exciting program of stories. Listeners will hear humorous tales, true stories, stories that touch the heart, and much more. In addition to the professional tellers, the drama students at Colfax High have also auditioned for the short Youth Tells component of the program, and three of them have been chosen to tell brief stories."
In 2001, communities across six continents participated in Tellabration! The event drew audiences in 42 states and 10 foreign countries including Japan, Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, and India. For information about the Tellabration!, contact PlacerArts at (530) 885-2787. |
